What an SMS bomber is

An SMS bomber sends a large volume of text messages to one number in a short window. The volume is the point: enough messages to bury the victim's real messages, burn through their data allowance, and push their phone into a state where it is continuously vibrating.

Delivery happens through bulk SMS gateways or by abusing legitimate transactional SMS routes. A route that was meant for sending OTPs gets pointed at a single victim instead, and the messages arrive from a sender ID the victim does not recognise.

Why we do not run one

Bulk unsolicited messaging is a specific offence under section 66C and 66D of the Information Technology Act, 2000. It is also the mechanism behind a large share of the OTP fraud in India, because a flooded inbox is how attackers make you miss the one message that mattered.

Instead of an SMS gateway, this page runs a JavaScript timer in your browser. There is no gateway account, no sender ID, no DLT template registration and no per-message cost. The events you see are strings generated locally.

Is SMS bombing illegal in India?
Yes. Sending unsolicited bulk messages is covered by sections 66C and 66D of the IT Act, 2000. It is also a violation of the TRAI commercial communications code and results in number termination by carriers.
Why did I stop getting my OTP messages?
A flooded inbox is the most common reason people miss OTPs. The real OTP is usually sitting in the flood, and the interface shows only the newest message. Check all messages, use the search function in your messaging app, and never share an OTP with anyone for any reason.
How do I stop SMS spam?
Register on the National Customer Preference Register, ask your carrier to activate SMS filtering, report offending messages by forwarding them to 1909, and block specific numbers in your messaging app.
